Ecological wildlife-friendly garden

Welcome to the Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden, part of the Nubian Life Resource Centre in Shepherds Bush/White City, London. The garden provides a diverse range of edible plants designed to benefit humans and wildlife.

The Josiah Braithwaite Community Garden originated as a collaboration between Permablitz London, Living Medicine and the Nubian Life Centre in White City, West London. Nubian Life provides Adult Day Care Services for older African and African Caribbean residents in Hammersmith and Fulham, and are experts in meeting the needs of elders with a range of issues such as Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes and physical and visual impairments.

The garden has a permaculture design which was installed by Permablitz London (www.permablitzlondon.com) and filmed by BBC Gardeners’ World and broadcast in June 2018. The garden is one of Permablitz London’s showcase gardens.

Growing Together

Free seeds to grow and free online workshops to show you how

Growing Together is a project where we grow fruit, vegetables and flowers together this year. We have free seeds that you can collect to start growing and we will support you with online workshops to explain what to do. We want to grow together on windowsills, balconies or in gardens, sharing our experiences and knowledge.

The project is part of Capital Growth’s Community Harvest and we hope that surplus harvest will be donated to food banks in Hammersmith and Fulham.

This training will teach you about simple herbal remedies you can prepare at home: the ten sessions will run in pairs, the first session teaching the theory, with a presentation explaining which plants you can use. The second session will be practical, demonstrating how to prepare the remedy with a reminder about the plants to use, how to collect the plant material and store it.
